Go to System Preferences-> NTFS for Mac -> Settings -> Check for Update Now or enable Check for available updated automatically. Yet I had paid $60+ for this piece of buggy crap. Just wanted to add - Tuxera sucks too! I watched a file literally (sizewise) go to zero bytes when I changed its filename. The world isn't going to convert to HFS+ or whatever their newest file system is (which has caused me no end of hassles). Apple had better get down their high horse. There are simply too many NTFS files around. Yeah, right! If Apple doesn't come out with their own ability to read/write NTFS drives, I'm moving back to Microsoft. Temporarily setting an external drive to "read only" permanently makes that drive read only unless you want to delete and reinstall the driver, or mess with fstab. Hi guys, For the last few years I enjoyed using the (free) Paragon NTFS For Mac software in combination with my Seagate external HDD. Also, they offer free HFS drivers for Windows, but unfortunately not APFS. ![]() I was able to format my external drive to NTFS and use it as my main windows external drive(I have only 500GB internal SSD) and still download things such as games and manage it in OS X without a VM or booting into Windows. If you did not already know and if you own an external SeaGate drive, apparently they offer Paragon NTFS drivers for Mac for free (though of course It only applies to certain Seagate Drives.), allowing full write support to NTFS drives. I have found an interesting way to circumvent this issue and thought I would share it with all you fine people, though with some limitations. Mostly due to exFat's age and based off of the old FAT filesystem, and making it unsuitable for normal file storage. For awhile I have found using exFat somewhat annoying when using external drives and I split between filesystems to use.
